On Monday, October 17, 2018, the first day of this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination, there will be a total of 552 276 candidates participating from 18,501 schools (BECE).
According to a statement that was released by the West African Test Council (WAEC) in Accra on Thursday, the examination for this year would be administered to school applicants as well as private students at a total of 2,023 centers across the country.
In the announcement, it was said that "the entrance figure is composed of 276,988 males and 275,288 ladies." The number of people who have registered to take the BECE this year is 3,48% lower than the total number of people who will take the exam in 2021, which is 572,167.
In regard to the BECE for Private Participants (PC), there were a total of 1,132 candidates, comprised of 634 males and 498 females that participated in the examination.
According to the statement, the examination would be administered in 15 different centers located in the respective capital cities of the regions.
It was said that the number of applicants who had registered to take the BECE in 2022 had increased by 6.09 percent from the previous year's total of 1067.
The Council assuaged the public's concerns by reassuring them that all appropriate precautions had been taken to ensure the security of the examination and ensure that it would be successfully carried out.
