The victory in Milan was Chelsea's fourth straight victory across all competitions, keeping them unblemished in Potter's tenure as head coach of the club.

Jorginho replaced Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the starting lineup, while Trevoh Chalobah came in for an injured Wesley Fofana to take Wesley's spot. Overall, Potter made two substitutions to the team that won the previous week's match against Milan in the return leg.

The Blues were welcomed with a hostile greeting at the San Siro, where they had the most of the early possession and were the team that started the game.

When compared to the efforts they put out against the west London team the previous Wednesday, it was immediately apparent that the hosts were going to put up a performance that was a significant step up against this opponent.

During the first fifteen minutes of play, Milan was awarded a few free kicks, but both teams were searching for their first serious opportunity to score a goal.

Reece James faced up against Rafael Leao once again as Chelsea's defense continued to hold firm and was quick to thwart any efforts made by their hosts.

Soon after, the Blues were given a penalty, and Tomori was sent out for his tackle on Mason Mount. The penalty was granted to the Blues.

Jorginho quickly stepped up and converted the penalty kick to put the score 1-0 in Chelsea's favor shortly after the Milan players had a few seconds to voice their disagreement with the decision.

Olivier Giroud, a former Chelsea player, quickly presented Milan with a golden opportunity to tie the game, but he missed the target with a header from within the penalty area.

In the first half an hour of the match, Raheem Sterling became the third player to be cautioned, and the emotions between the two teams continued to rise after the goal was scored.

Despite this, Chelsea extended their advantage against the Italian powerhouses in the 33rd minute of the match.

Mount sent a tantalizing through pass into the penalty area with Sterling as the intended target; however, Sterling was able to leave it for Aubameyang, who then proceeded to blast the ball in at the near post.

In the offensive phase, Chelsea's attacking players had a lot of room to run in since they were playing with an additional player, and the Blues wanted to use this advantage as much as possible.

Mount was eager to get his name on the scoreboard himself, and he came very close to doing so; however, Ciprian Tatarusanu did a good job of getting down low and deflecting Mount's attempt away from the goal.

The team managed by Potter maintained their composure on the ball and continued to press forward at every available chance as the first half came to a close.

Soon enough, it was halftime, and the away team had a commanding lead in the tie game.

Conor Gallagher came in as a substitute for Mount at the beginning of the second half as Potter looked to seal the deal while away from their home field.

In the beginning of the game, Ben Chilwell made a dash for the goal, but his run into the box was called back because he was out of position.

A few short seconds later, Gallagher was put through into the penalty area, but he was unable to score from a difficult angle on the goal.

After Mateo Kovacic's daring volley on goal, Aubameyang came close to scoring a second goal, but the Milan goalkeeper made a save from close range to prevent him from scoring.

James sustained an injury as a result of his challenge on a player from the other team, but he was quickly able to return to the field of play.

Just after the hour mark, Milan's Sergino Dest had a golden opportunity to bring one back for his team, but he blasted his attempt high and wide of the goal.

Despite his best attempts to continue playing after falling to the ground, James was forced to leave the field due to the injury he sustained. Cesar Azpilicueta came on to replace James, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek took Sterling's spot as a substitute.

The home team kept working throughout the game to find a way through Chelsea's defense, but the Chelsea defense was able to take advantage of the additional man the away team had.

Trevoh Chalobah came dangerously close to being caught out in his own half as Leao raced through towards goal; but, Kalidou Koulibaly was there to make an important challenge to prevent Milan from moving forward.

Havertz entered the game in the latter moments of the contest in place of Aubameyang, who had scored the game's only goal.

Chilwell was eager to try and get himself on the scoreboard as the clock crept closer and closer to the conclusion, but his attempt flew wide of the post. Chilwell was disappointed.

As soon as he was taken out of the game, though, Marc Cucurella came in as the last Blues sub just as Potter and his team were getting closer and closer to claiming victory.

In the last seconds of the game, Gallagher had another excellent opportunity to score, but he was called for offside, which prevented the goal from being scored.

In spite of this, the final whistle soon blew, and Chelsea came away with a monumental victory away from home, moving them one step closer to the knockout round of the Champions League.
