Nana Agradaa, who was born Patricia Asiedua and is the founder of the Heaven Way Church in Accra, was remanded by a circuit court in Accra.
Following an advertisement that she ran in the media offering people money to contribute to charity, she was apprehended for defrauding certain individuals inside her church by operating a money-doubling scheme.
She is now being held in jail by the authorities so that she may continue to provide assistance with the inquiry.
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 8, the Ghanaian Police issued the following call to action: "Anyone who is a victim of the suspected money doubling fraud should report to the Accra Regional Police Command for further action to help the investigation."
Nana Agrada has, in the meanwhile, refuted allegations that she defrauded members of her church.
After the event, she was quoted in a video that went viral online saying:
"I made an announcement to the people of Ghana that I was going to provide cash to members of my church so that they could invest in their enterprises, and that anybody who needed financial assistance could come. If you are not already a member of the church, the first thing you need to do in order to take advantage of this kind gift is to sign up to become an official member of our congregation.
"I did the all night event and distributed the money to members of my church. As a result, if you just registered that day and weren't able to obtain a piece of the cash, it cannot be considered fraud, and I have not in any way upset you in any manner."
"I am the only person in every church where there is an offertory who does this in front of a camera. "This was a fundraising exercise that I declared to everyone that it was beginning from 1,000 Cedis to Coins," she stated in a taped video that has gone viral on social media. "1000 Cedis to Coins" was the starting point for the fundraiser.
She continued by saying, "Everybody in Ghana knows that people are planning my demise, they want to ruin my ministry, there were protests against me while I was being ordained, and others even accused me of burying my own kid to increase the church, but God is with me."
On October 13, she is scheduled to make another appearance in court.
